Being Frugal In 2012 - Silpat Baking Mat

One of my goals in 2012 is being more frugal.  I am looking very closely at everything I spend my money on and think how I may off set that cost.

I love to bake and cook!  I use a lot of aluminum foil and wow it is expensive!  There tend not to be coupons for aluminum foil so I usually bite the bullet and pay the $2.99 for Wegmans brand 75 sq ft.   I use about 1 roll a month or more.  So my cost for the year is $35.88.

I also use parchment paper for baking cost $3.99 for 41 sq ft.  I use about 4 roll a year so that is $15.96.  When I add both the foil and the parchment paper my annual cost for both is $51.84.

I have come up with a solution Silpat Baking Mat (silicone pad). I have been using mine for 2 weeks now and I love it! Nothing sticks to it and it cleans up with soap and water in a snap!

Here is a description of a Silpat Baking Mat from Bed Bath and Beyond, this item sells for $24.99.

Description:
Reinforced, siliconized rubber mat makes any baking sheet non-stick replacing the need for parchment paper. Mat can be used 3,000 times and is easy to clean. Heat resistant up to 480°. No greasing required. Mat measures 11 5/8" W x 16 1/2" L for use in a 18" LW x 13" W baking pan. FDA approved.

You can also purchase thru Amazon for $17.99.

So in my first year this item will pay for itself and then some!  Now that is being frugal.
