Tuesday Teaching Class

Welcome To Tuesday Teaching Class!

I would LOVE to hear from you! This weekly post is geared to helping you!
  • Is there a question you are dying to ask?
  • Is there one store that is difficult for you to shop at?
  • Are you confused about a stores coupon policy?

Please leave comments and let me know what you would like to learn

Today's Subject:  How To Save On Meat?
You may or may not have noticed that there are not a lot of coupons to be had for Meat items.  So how do you save money?
The easiest and what I do is go to the store early in the morning!
  • Most stores will mark down their meat when it is getting past it's prime late in the evening or 1st thing in the morning.
  • Because the shelf life is getting old you need to freeze these items right away.  I have a FoodSaver that I use to help preserve/extend these items.  If you don't have one, no problem.  Wrap in plastic wrap and use a Freezer safe Ziploc bag.
Grind Your Own Meat
  • If you have a stand mixer grind your own chicken, turkey, beef.  There are many videos on You Tube to demonstrate what the process is. It may cost you up front for the mixer but in the long run will save your money.  So LOVE my KitchenAid!
  • (If you don't have one it is almost Christmas will make for a nice gift)
Buy Big
  • Family sized packages of meat usually cost less per pound than smaller packages.  So, buy one big package, and divide it into the portions that you need.

Buy Lean Cuts
  • Sure the packages of 70% lean ground beef are cheaper than the 95% lean ground beef.  Bet you did not know that after the fat cooks away on the 70% ground beef, that lean package of 95% will net you more meat for your money.  In other words you are paying less for the meat and paying for the fat that will melt.
Buy Cheaper Cuts
  • Choose more affordable priced choice cuts of beef instead of pricier prime cuts.  Then, marinade or tenderize them.
Stock Up When It is On Sale!
  • May sound like a no brainier, but there have been a many a times that I kick myself in the bottom for not getting (2) packages of chicken breast when on sale.
Speaking of Chicken
  • Boneless Chicken breast vs Bone in is a lot more expensive!  Save your money and do it yourself.   There is a great video on You Tube  that explains how easy it is!

Go in with another family/friend on half a pig or cow.
  • I have never done this as I am concerned with the quality/packing/freshness of the meat.  But it sure can be a good way of saving money.

What did you think?  Helpful or Not?  What do you do to lower your cost on meat?
